The criminal justice system is ineffective, unfair and expensive. The ACLU of West Virginia is working hard to ensure a more just and fair criminal justice system in the Mountain State.

Defending Democracy

The right to participate in our Democracy is the most basic American right. The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia will work to defend Democracy and encourage all people to become engaged in civic life.

Freedom of and from Religion

The fundamental constitutional protections of due process and equal protection embodied in our Constitution and Bill of Rights apply to every “person” and are not limited to citizens, but apply to every person, regardless of immigration status.

Juvenile Justice

There is no justice for children caught up in the so-called juvenile justice system. The ACLU-WV is committed to reforming this system from the ground up.
