Youth Activist Student
Scholarship Info
Dear High
School
Counselors:
I am excited to let you know that the
American Civil Liberties Union of WV Foundation will be
awarding $1,000 Youth Activist Scholarships this spring. Last
year, we were pleased to be able to award Lindsie Nelson of
Herbert
Hoover High
School and Doree Conley of
Wheeling
Park High
School with
scholarships.
We need
your help in identifying current
West
Virginia students who
have a passion for civil liberties! A wide variety of efforts
can represent the kind of commitment to equal rights and
fairness that we are looking for in scholarship applicants.
Some examples are:
Ø Founding a student-led
coalition
Ø Taking a leadership role in high school and/or
community programs
Ø Organizing student
protests
Ø Mobilizing the media to stand for civil
liberties
Ø Starting a
high school Gay-Straight Alliance
In addition to demonstrating a strong commitment to
civil liberties, each scholarship applicant must be a high school senior
planning on entering an accredited college or university as a
full-time, degree-seeking student. Applicants also must have
attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of
graduation. Demonstrated financial need will also increase the
student’s chances of qualifying for the
scholarship.
The ACLU of WV Foundation will be accepting
applications until May
2, 2011. I have attached an application form to this
email, and please have the
student mail it to:
Nancy Hill, ACLU of WV Foundation,
P.O. Box 3952,
Charleston
WV
25339-3952.
If you need additional information, you can reach
Nancy at (304) 345-9246 or
email her at nhill@acluwv.org.
Sincerely,

Franklin Crabtree
Executive Director
