We have been informed the Randolph County Superintendent is withdrawing her recommendation to expel our client, who was facing an expulsion hearing for using social media to warn his LGBTQ+ classmates about violent threats he’d heard about them.
This is a victory for free speech. It's also a victory for doing the right thing. Our client should have been commended for speaking out, not faced disciplinary action.
We remain concerned about a number of other incidents concerning bullying and targeting of LGBTQ+ students in the Randolph County school system and will continue to monitor the situation.
We also want to thank the community activists who attended the school board meeting this evening to speak out about the treatment of minority students in the school system.
