Joseph has spent his entire adult life immersed in the movement for peace and justice. The focus of all of his work has been to democratize our society and culture, helping people take power over the institutions that most directly impact their lives. Working for the ACLU fulfills a lifelong dream for Joseph. As ACLU-WV Executive Director, Joseph provides strategic leadership and is responsible for managing all aspects of the organization.
Prior to joining the ACLU, Joseph was the General Counsel of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE), where he coordinated the union’s legal activities nationwide and advised the union’s leadership and staff on organizing, negotiation and representation strategy. Before that, Joseph represented public housing tenants’ associations and individuals facing housing crises as an Equal Justice Works Fellow and Staff Attorney at Florida Rural Legal Services.
Joseph graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and summa cum laude from Washington and Jefferson College, where he was valedictorian.
During his free time, if Joseph isn’t playing with his kids, he’s probably either watching a cooking show with his wife or cheering on Tottenham Hotspur, his favorite soccer club.
