Do you love to read? Do you care about civil liberties and civil rights? Then we’ve got an exciting announcement for you: The ACLU of West Virginia is starting a book club!

We plan to meet every other month to discuss a book chosen by the ACLU-WV that relates to civil liberties issues facing people in our state. We plan to alternate between fiction and non-fiction books that lend themselves to a wide-ranging, informative discussion. We will get together in person and virtually to share our thoughts and ideas. Given the uncertain times we are facing, we thought now would be a good time to read or re-read this classic dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell.

The first book club meeting will be on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:00pm at the Kanawha County Library in Downtown Charleston (123 Capitol Street). If you can’t be there in person, you will be able to join us by conference call. If there is interest, maybe people outside Charleston can get together at a coffee shop or library and call in together.

We hope you are as excited about this as we are. And we can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the relevance of 1984 in the year 2017.
