For 35 years, combatting the spread of HIV/AIDS has been at the core of ACLU’s mission. That’s why we’re partnering with more than 25 other organizations to send out an “HIV SOS” this Saturday, June 26. We hope you’ll join us.
The Kanawha Valley is facing what the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls “the most concerning” HIV outbreak in the nation. Government officials have poured fuel on the fire by effectively banning CDC-approved harm reduction methods like syringe exchange services at the state level, and outright criminalizing them at the city level in Charleston.
City officials are already backpedaling somewhat on their actions. That’s not happening by chance. It's happening because people like you are speaking up. Let’s send a unified message: we won’t sit by quietly while government officials turn their backs on science and the public’s health.
At 2 p.m. June 26, hundreds of Charleston residents will wear red and gather at Magic Island to form the words “HIV SOS” for an aerial photo. Several organizations will also offer resources at the event.
We hope you can join us. Please RSVP here.
