CHARLESTON, W.Va. – ACLU-WV is excited to announce a free screening of the A24 film SING SING: Trust the Process at the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston at 6PM on Thursday, September 26, 2024. SING SING is a drama film that follows the story of Divine G, a man imprisoned in New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility for a crime he didn’t commit. Throughout the film, Divine finds purpose by acting in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men in this story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. Hailed by the New York Times in one of their NYT Critics’ Picks, staff critic Lisa Kennedy wrote, “Spoken by the two key characters in the prison-set drama ‘Sing Sing,’ the word ‘beloved’ is as moving as it is unexpected. It uplifts and gently shatters. It makes a case for the deep respect and deeper amity forged in a theater program set up at the eponymous maximum-security facility.” The film stars Colman Domingo and is rated R. Thanks to partners A24 and The Just Trust, screening is free to the public with pre-registration on EventBrite.
