Doddridge County High School students were told an assembly this week would be about suicide prevention. Instead, students who contacted ACLU-WV said they were given a sermon by a self-described Christian evangelist during school hours.
ACLU-WV has sent a letter to school officials informing them of the many legal and Constitutional issues with inviting explicitly religious speakers to proselytize to students. We’re also seeking records of the assembly, including recordings of the sermon, communications between school officials and the speaker, and any discussions about the nature of the event.
