This bill would have prohibited employers from requesting wage history in making hiring and compensation decisions and from preventing employees from discussing wages or benefits. In a system where minorities and women are routinely paid less than male colleagues, using salary history to justify current salaries only perpetuates the inequitities. Preventing employees from discussing their salary is another way to keep employees from recognizing if they are being paid fairly.
