The ACLU-WV joined countless other voices from across the state at a public hearing to stand against HB 4012 – a bill that would eliminate Medicaid funding for women’s reproductive services. This bill is a thinly veiled attack on working and poor women in the Mountain State severely limiting their ability to access necessary medical care. Make no mistake, this is an attempt by anti-choice zealots to strip away West Virginia women’s constitutional right to access abortion services and retain self-determination over their own health. With nearly two-thirds of West Virginia voters in favor of providing Medicaid funding for such services, it’s unclear why politicians continue to play politics with women’s health.
